Frequently asked

How does Tanny decide how long I should stay out?

From physics, not a guess. One UV index unit equals 0.025 W/m² of erythemal irradiance, and one Standard Erythema Dose equals 100 J/m². Combined with the minimal erythema dose for your skin tone, that gives the time it would take to reach a given dose. Tanny targets 55% of your burn threshold on your first session and never goes above 80%, then adjusts for your age.

Why does it avoid midday?

Between roughly 12:00 and 15:00 the UV index peaks. You tan faster there, but the margin between "tanned" and "burned" is much thinner. Tanny scores the hours of your day and prefers a UV around 4 — effective, but with room for error.

Why does it schedule rest days?

Melanin production continues for a day or two after exposure. Going out every single day raises your burn risk without speeding up the result. After two consecutive session days Tanny inserts a rest day.

Do I have to share my location?

No. Decline the permission and pick your city from the list instead. All 81 provinces of Türkiye plus a set of international cities are included, and the app behaves identically.

The times look wrong / shifted by a few hours

Session times are shown in the time zone of the city your plan was built for, not your phone's time zone. If those differ you will see a note like "times shown in Istanbul time" under the schedule.

The countdown stopped when I closed the screen

It shouldn't. Remaining time is derived from the session's end moment, so the timer stays correct even if the app is backgrounded or the phone is locked. Closing the session screen with ✕ keeps it running — you'll see a floating bar above the tab bar, and the countdown appears on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.

Why does UV show 0 for my city?

In winter, and outside daylight hours, the UV index genuinely drops below the level where tanning is possible. Tanny will say there is no suitable window rather than invent one.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. On your iPhone: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Tanny → Cancel. Cancelling at least 24 hours before the period ends prevents the next renewal.

I paid but Pro didn't unlock

Open Settings inside Tanny and tap Restore purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you paid with. If it still doesn't unlock, email us.

How do I delete my data?

Settings → Reset all data clears your profile, plan and history from the device. To have synced records removed from our side as well, email info@tanny.app.

Tanny is not a medical device. It does not diagnose or treat any condition, and all times it shows are estimates. If your skin reddens, if a mole changes, or if anything feels wrong, get out of the sun and speak to a doctor. If you have photosensitivity, a history of skin cancer, or take medication that increases UV sensitivity, talk to a physician before following any sun exposure schedule.
